Everything you need to know about passion fruit
This week, we were lucky enough to recover some passion fruit for our weekly impact item and fruit harvests! For those unfamiliar with these tropical sweets, eating 'em can be a little intimidating. To help you passion fruit lovers make the most of your harvest, we threw together some quick tips!
How to tell when they're ripe
Slightly wrinkled fruits are ripe and will have a sweeter taste than the smooth skinned passion fruit! If the skin is smooth, your passion fruit will taste tart - eek! Still unsure? Check out this YouTube video detailing how to determine whether your passion fruit is ready to enjoy!
How do they taste?!
Passion fruit taste, well, fruity! And tart! They also have a strong and characteristic perfume. You can absolutely eat them raw by themselves if you don't mind the tartness. We recommend enjoying them with something sweet or creamy!!
How to eat 'em raw
First, make sure it's ripe! Then, cut it in half and use a spoon to scoop out the seeds and fruit. Remember, you can and should eat the seeds!! There's a film between the skin and seeds that is edible, but it doesn't taste that awesome so we recommend not eating it! If your passion fruit tastes too sharp, add some sugar or something creamy (ice cream!) while eating!
Creative ways to enjoy passion fruit!
We can think of so many!! From juicing for smoothies to pureeing for sauces and marinades, the possibilities are vast! We recommend heading over to our Recipe Club on Facebook to see how other passionate passion fruit eaters are getting creative :).
