Celebrating 2024: Advancing Health, Wellness, and Sustainability Through Food

Food is more than nourishment; it’s a unifying force that brings people together, a source of joy, and a critical part of our wellness and identity. As a food-loving company on a mission to solve food waste and fight hunger, Hungry Harvest is creating sustainable solutions and partnerships to build a future where a healthy planet nourishes every person.

As we close the chapter on 2024, we’re proud to reflect on a year of impactful milestones, aimed at advancing sustainability, health outcomes, and food access.

Partnership Powered

None of this work would be possible without our incredible partners. We are deeply grateful for the privilege of advancing a mission rooted in connection, wellness, and health through food.

This year Hungry Harvest onboarded 35 new partnerships from Community Schools and YMCAs to Maternal Health Clinics and Diabetes Prevention Programs with the goal of expanding food access and promoting wellness.

Advancing Advocacy and Research

Food insecurity has far-reaching consequences, costing an estimated $77 billion annually in excess healthcare spending, according to the CDC. Evidence shows that tailored food interventions can improve health outcomes. In 2024, Hungry Harvest focused efforts on advocacy and research to integrate produce prescriptions as a sustainable solution to improve health outcomes and lower cost of care.

On Capitol Hill, Hungry Harvest met with Senators and Representatives across the Mid-Atlantic, lending our voice to policies that integrate healthy foods into a benefit for hundreds of thousands of Medicare and Medicaid members.

We also collaborated on clinical trial research studies, working alongside industry leaders to explore and implement evidence-based food solutions. These studies focus on reducing health risks like high HbA1c and triglycerides while addressing food insecurity.

Expanding Choice, Access, and Ease

With Registered Dietitian and client insights, Hungry Harvest expanded ready-to-eat meals and our client choice marketplace.

This gives individuals and families the ability to select foods that align with their preferences, cultural traditions, and lifestyles while adhering to physician recommendations.

Supporting Health and Food Access for Children and Families

In Maryland, 1 in 6 children are facing food insecurity. Hungry Harvest recognizes the importance of fostering health and wellness from an early age. We are proud to support community schools’ mission to provide wrap-around services, including food, to enhance students' ability to succeed, both academically and personally through the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. We partnered with 36 schools.

In 2024, we delivered over 150,000 pounds of fresh produce and grocery staples for school-based food distributions this past year. Through healthcare partnerships, we have supported 140 families with home-deliveries of tailored healthy groceries to support childhood diabetes management.

Together, we are helping to lay the foundation for healthier futures for students and families.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability remains central to everything we do. Nearly 70% of our seasonal produce is locally or regionally sourced, reducing our carbon footprint while supporting local farmers. This year, Hungry Harvest rescued 5 Million pounds of food that might otherwise have gone to waste, redirecting it to neighbors.

Looking Ahead

As we move into 2025, Hungry Harvest remains committed to advocacy and research efforts, forging new partnerships, and innovating to make healthy food access - and a healthy planet - a reality for all.
