Coming Together for Families: Hungry Harvest at MedStar’s Community Baby Shower

On April 12, 2025, MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center, in partnership with Clinton Baptist Church, hosted its second-annual Community Baby Shower & Resource Fair—a heartwarming event dedicated to celebrating and supporting new and expectant parents.

Hungry Harvest was proud to join over 30 local organizations at Clinton Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland, to share resources with families. Our mission to end food waste and hunger aligns perfectly with this event’s commitment to ensuring that when moms thrive, families thrive.

“This event marked a significant milestone for us. We officially launched the PG Healthy Start program—a community-driven initiative to connect families with care and critical resources. We were proud to serve over 500 families, and we’re grateful for our community partners who helped make it all possible.” said Charmaine Ivey, Director of Population and Community Health at MedStar Health.

From lactation support and health screenings to free diapers, baby gear raffles, nutrition education, and grocery bags filled with shelf-stable items, fresh produce, and fruit, attendees left with both practical essentials and a sense of encouragement. Screenings included blood pressure and blood sugar checks, offering valuable insight into personal health. Nurses from MedStar Southern Maryland were on-site to conduct these checks and answer questions. In addition, community organizations shared resources and guidance on topics such as education, finances, relationships, and more, providing a well-rounded support system for families.

Lauren R. Kornegay, Partner Success Manager at Hungry Harvest, reflected on the experience and the care that went into making the event a success.

“Hungry Harvest is truly honored to be part of this event. Working alongside Charmaine and Silvia, it was clear how much they wanted the experience to feel welcoming and warm for the expecting mothers,” said Kornegay. “From the moment I walked in, you could see the intentionality behind every detail from both MedStar and Clinton Baptist Church. This is what true partnership looks like.”

We’re proud to support MedStar Southern Maryland and look forward to returning for the 2026 Baby Shower in June. “It’s incredible to see this community come together for families—we hope to welcome even more next year,” added Ivey. Events like this demonstrate the power of community-driven collaboration in creating healthier futures.

At Hungry Harvest, we believe nutrition plays a crucial role in supporting the health of mothers, babies, and entire families. We are committed to expanding access to fresh produce and partnering with organizations that connect families with the care and support they need—because when moms thrive, families thrive.
