2025 Impact Report: Partnerships, Persistence, and Progress

A Year Defined by Pivots, Adaptation, and Persistence

2025 was a year of pivots, adaptation, and relentless effort to stay ahead of a rapidly changing landscape across food security and Food is Medicine work.

As the year unfolded, Hungry Harvest’s team mapped out potential scenarios for what could happen in the sustainable food system and food access worlds we live in. How might healthcare continue to intersect with nutrition? How might investments in food access and Food is Medicine evolve? How would changes at the state and federal level ripple to state budgets and programs?

Navigating Uncertainty in a Changing Landscape

As many of you can likely relate, our mapped out scenarios were turned upside down in a moment and we worked again, alongside our partners, to adapt to the changing needs, funding, and demands of the current season.

Partners as the Steady Force Forward

A constant positive force for Hungry Harvest has always been the joy of working with fiercely compassionate and resilient partners, driven to making improvements in healthcare, education, and community. The grit from our partners is what kept our team and our work afloat this year, while also serving as a lighthouse, sharing what was most needed by neighbors, students, and families.

Through those partnerships, we navigated our way through 2025 and are proud to share the impact of the year behind us as we look toward the year ahead.

Advancing Food Is Medicine Through Policy Advocacy

Our team showed up on Capitol Hill, in coalition spaces, and at the local level to advance Food is Medicine as a critical part of healthcare. Locally, Hungry Harvest supported Food as Medicine policy efforts in Prince George’s County. Nationally, Hungry Harvest signed on to a joint letter with more than 120 organizations urging leaders to prioritize nutrition research and Food is Medicine initiatives.

Advocacy continued through participation in NPPC Day(s) of Action and, in July, Congressman Glenn Ivey visited Hungry Harvest’s warehouse in Landover, Maryland, where he saw firsthand how rescuing surplus foods reduces food waste and expands access to fresh, affordable food.

Supporting Students and Families Through Community Schools

Hungry Harvest believes access to healthy food should be a fundamental right - not a privilege. This year, we worked with dedicated staff to support students and families far beyond the classroom.

Together, we partnered with 101 Community Schools to provide fresh produce and healthy grocery staples to more than 10,250 families across Prince George’s, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel Counties. Community School coordinators, educators, and support staff connected families to wraparound services such as food, mental health supports, and family engagement initiatives, helping reduce chronic absenteeism by 7.7%. County Community Schools also posted the district’s fastest literacy growth, improving ELA performance by 7%.

Growing Impact Through Food Is Medicine Programs

HarvestRx, Hungry Harvest’s home-delivery produce and clinically tailored grocery prescription program, grew in both scale and impact this year. We build HarvestRx partnerships ranging from local pilots focused on maternal health and diabetes prevention and management to statewide programs improving food security and reducing healthcare spending.

One partner shared:
HarvestRx is a great program that fosters healthy eating choices. Our clients are low income and face many Social Drivers of Health challenges. Hungry Harvest boxes being delivered directly to the home was a great benefit that all the clients verbalized they were grateful for and enjoyed the fresh food.

Expanding What’s in the Box

Fruits and vegetables have always been Hungry Harvest’s “bread and butter”. While we still pride ourselves on offering fresh, quality produce as a key component of our programs, in 2025 we expanded available options to include fresh animal proteins, healthy prepared meals, and family-friendly grocery staples.

Food is personal, and we aim to adapt to the evolving needs, tastes, and preferences of partners and the communities they serve.

Powered by Hungry Harvest Customers

Hungry Harvest’s customers are the force behind what makes this impact possible. This year, customers showed up with heart, donating additional harvests to local nonprofit organizations during the holiday season and ensuring organizations had continued support and access to healthy foods.

Looking Ahead With Gratitude and Hope

As we reflect on the year behind us, we feel hopeful. Hopeful because of the people that make this work possible - customers, partners, local farmers, and advocates. Hungry Harvest remains both grateful and eager to continue this work every day, and we cannot wait to see what 2026 brings.
